I set up and operated the $7,500,000 Business Support Fund for the Asian Development Bank and the Government of Pakistan. I set up the company from zero, recruited its staff and opened four offices across the country. I was invited to join the Board after a year and the project exceeded outreach targets, creating more than 3000 jobs. [More]

I founded AniCap Venture Partners, a private consultancy in South Africa, specializing in new approaches to developing the investment readiness of marginalized entrepreneurs and increasing access to private equity markets. The company provided consulting services in Southern Africa in the evaluation, design, and management of local and national economic development programs. [More]

I re-launched Enterprise Qatar’s new managerial and technical advisory service (MTAS) department. Reengineered processes and marketing for the department from the ground up. The program provided government subsidies to new, small and medium enterprises in Qatar to stimulate their development.

I oversaw Enterprise Qatar’s design of two new business incubators to cultivate an entrepreneurial eco-system for Qatari and Arab Entrepreneurs working in technology and Arab fashions, with the aim to help make Qatar the startup destination of choice in the Middle East.

While a Principal at Enterprise Qatar, I oversaw the Al Fikra annual business plan competition that was conducted in partnership with MIT Enterprise Forum and Silatech. I led a team to secured $200,000 in outside sponsorship for the competition.

I was a judge for the Lingnan MBA business plan competition in China.

I was a judge for the Charlotte Venture Challenge business plan competition in North Carolina.

I was a judge for the Lahore University of Management Sciences Future Entrepreneurs Business Plan Competition in Pakistan.

I won $250,000 proof-of-concept/seed funding in both South Africa and Pakistan to evaluate feasibility of a national vendor incubation program for suppliers called the Financial and Business Support Services Network (in Pakistan) and Blink (in South Africa). I oversaw a team of consultants from Europe and Pakistan who conducted the study, alongside delegates from the European Union. In South Africa, my initiative was a semi-finalist in the National Business Initiative and McKinsey & Company’s 2003 business plan contest. [More]

I developed a business model for an online grant application facility for South African small and medium enterprises called MyDonor. With MyDonor, a development assistance consultant would be able to advise as to the most appropriate grant and subsidy options to suit a SME’s individual needs and source comprehensive technical assistance support from all local major donors and social investors. I designed Red Dawn Holdings, a new publically listed company, to buy incubator properties, to capture high growth returns among the most dynamic sectors and markets in China. If implemented, it would represent a diversified investment in a portfolio of high-growth companies. Red Dawn Holdings’s IPO price would capitalize the costs to build the capacity in each incubator and provide better venture development support services. [More]

I designed a small and medium enterprise development program called the Johannesburg Empowerment Exchange (JEX). JEX was similar to the Chicago Climate Exchange, but adapted to encourage business linkages and stimulate racially-equitable procurement practices. PWC provided free office space and the use of their resources in exchange for future participation in the venture. The head of the Bureau of Economic Research described JEX as one of the most innovative approaches to black economic empowerment that he had ever seen. [More]
